I am so sorry for the ways the church failed you when you needed support and understanding. You were a victim in this, through and through, and that pastor abused his power.

I feel everything you are feeling about Christianity in this DWT America. We left the church last October, and will probably never go back. I can't believe Christianity has leaned so far away from Jesus in the way it's being portrayed now by right wing conservatives. Or maybe my eyes have finally been opened. Like you, I was heavily involved in church leadership, and most of my friendships were in the church. And like you, I am now wondering where I stand in my faith, if I can even call myself a Christian anymore because I no longer know what I believe. We've just been lied to and manipulated so many times by those in power, it's hard not to question what other lies have been created to groom us into compliance...

At any rate, thank you for writing this. As someone who has also written about Christianity and DWT and leaving the church, I expect you'll receive a bunch of hate comments, like I did. Guard your heart. Look for the compassionate voices. And remember that you know your truth more than anyone.

I’m all over the place, but I try to be honest in all of it. Find my books and musings at crissilangwell.com.
